        Z\u00f6llner<\/strong> waren damals keine Staatsbeamten, das Zollrecht wurde verpachtet. Zach\u00e4us war Oberz\u00f6llner und somit Vorgesetzter anderer Z\u00f6llner.<\/p>\n

        Jericho war eine gro\u00dfe, wichtige Handelsstadt und hatte gut bewachte Tore. Durch das bestehende Zollsystem konnten willk\u00fcrliche und betr\u00fcgerische Einnahmen gemacht werden. Die Aus\u00fcbung dessen galt als unehrenhaftes Gewerbe und wurde mit S\u00fcndern, Heiden und Dirnen gleichgestellt.<\/p>\n
