2nd Kings 4<\/h1>\n

Elisha & the Shunammite<\/h3>\n

First encounter<\/h4>\n

\u2078 One day Elisha went to Shunem, where there was a prominent woman; and she persuaded him to eat bread. So it was, that as often as he passed by, he turned in there to eat bread. \u2079 She said to her husband, \u201cSee now, I perceive that this is a holy man of God who passes by us continually. \u00b9\u2070 Please, let\u2019s make a little room on the roof. Let\u2019s set a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp stand for him there. When he comes to us, he can stay there.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00b9\u00b9 One day he came there, and he went to the room and lay there. \u00b9\u00b2 He said to Gehazi his servant, \u201cCall this Shunammite.\u201d When he had called her, she stood before him. \u00b9\u00b3 He said to him, \u201cSay now to her, \u2018Behold, you have cared for us with all this care. What is to be done for you? Would you like to be spoken for to the king, or to the captain of the army?\u2019 \u201d She answered, \u201cI dwell among my own people.\u201d \u00b9\u2074 He said, \u201cWhat then is to be done for her?\u201d Gehazi answered, \u201cMost certainly she has no son, and her husband is old.\u201d \u00b9\u2075 He said, \u201cCall her.\u201d When he had called her, she stood in the door. \u00b9\u2076 He said, \u201cAt this season next year, you will embrace a son.\u201d She said, \u201cNo, my lord, you man of God, do not lie to your servant.\u201d<\/p>\n

The accident<\/h4>\n

\u00b9\u2077 The woman conceived, and bore a son at that season when the time came around, as Elisha had said to her. \u00b9\u2078 When the child was grown, one day he went out to his father to the reapers. \u00b9\u2079 He said to his father, \u201cMy head! My head!\u201d He said to his servant, \u201cCarry him to his mother.\u201d \u00b2\u2070 When he had taken him and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees until noon, and then died. \u00b2\u00b9 She went up and laid him on the man of God\u2019s bed, and shut the door on him, and went out. \u00b2\u00b2 She called to her husband and said, \u201cPlease send me one of the servants, and one of the donkeys, that I may run to the man of God and come again.\u201d \u00b2\u00b3 He said, \u201cWhy would you want go to him today? It is not a new moon or a Sabbath.\u201d She said, \u201cIt\u2019s all right.\u201d \u00b2\u2074 Then she saddled a donkey, and said to her servant, \u201cDrive, and go forward! Don\u2019t slow down for me, unless I ask you to.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00b2\u2075 So she went, and came to the man of God to Mount Carmel. When the man of God saw her afar off, he said to Gehazi his servant, \u201cBehold, there is the Shunammite. \u00b2\u2076 Please run now to meet her, and ask her, \u2018Is it well with you? Is it well with your husband? Is it well with your child?\u2019 \u201d She answered, \u201cIt is well.\u201d \u00b2\u2077 When she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught hold of his feet. Gehazi came near to thrust her away; but the man of God said, \u201cLeave her alone, for her soul is troubled within her; and Yahweh has hidden it from me, and has not told me.\u201d \u00b2\u2078 Then she said, \u201cDid I ask you for a son, my lord? Didn\u2019t I say, \u2018Do not deceive me\u2019?\u201d \u00b2\u2079 Then he said to Gehazi, \u201cTuck your cloak into your belt, take my staff in your hand, and go your way. If you meet any man, don\u2019t greet him; and if anyone greets you, don\u2019t answer him again. Then lay my staff on the child\u2019s face.\u201d \u00b3\u2070 The child\u2019s mother said, \u201cAs Yahweh lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.\u201d So he arose, and followed her. \u00b3\u00b9 Gehazi went ahead of them, and laid the staff on the child\u2019s face; but there was no voice and no hearing. Therefore he returned to meet him, and told him, \u201cThe child has not awakened.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00b3\u00b2 When Elisha had come into the house, behold, the child was dead, and lying on his bed. \u00b3\u00b3 He went in therefore, and shut the door on them both, and prayed to Yahweh. \u00b3\u2074 He went up and lay on the child, and put his mouth on his mouth, and his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands. He stretched himself on him; and the child\u2019s flesh grew warm. \u00b3\u2075 Then he returned, and walked in the house once back and forth, then went up and stretched himself out on him. Then the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes. \u00b3\u2076 He called Gehazi, and said, \u201cCall this Shunammite!\u201d So he called her. When she had come in to him, he said, \u201cTake up your son.\u201d \u00b3\u2077 Then she went in, fell at his feet, and bowed herself to the ground; then she picked up her son, and went out.<\/p>\n

2nd Kings 8<\/h1>\n

Elisha & the Shunammite (continuation)<\/h3>\n

\u00b9 Now Elisha had spoken to the woman whose son he had restored to life, saying, \u201cArise, and go, you and your household, and stay for a while wherever you can; for Yahweh has called for a famine. It will also come on the land for seven years.\u201d
\n\u00b2 The woman arose, and did according to the man of God\u2019s word. She went with her household, and lived in the land of the Philistines for seven years. \u00b3 At the end of seven years, the woman returned from the land of the Philistines. Then she went out to beg the king for her house and for her land. \u2074 Now the king was talking with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, \u201cPlease tell me all the great things that Elisha has done.\u201d \u2075 As he was telling the king how he had restored to life him who was dead, behold, the woman whose son he had restored to life begged the king for her house and for her land. Gehazi said, \u201cMy lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life.\u201d
\n\u2076 When the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed to her a certain officer, saying, \u201cRestore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now.\u201d<\/p>\n
